Rajasthan holds a special place in my heart. It’s a place where history, culture, and adventure come together in the most breathtaking way. From the grand forts and palaces to the beautiful lakes and endless deserts, this state has something to offer everyone. I’ve been lucky to visit many of its incredible spots, and I’m excited to share my personal favourite places that are a must-see if you’re planning a trip to Rajasthan.
1. Jaipur – The Pink City
Jaipur was the first true introduction to Rajasthan and something that remains long in my memory. I never forget the look of Amber Fort sitting atop the hills overlooking the city below. Just so beautiful to see the intricacies of the designs and views from the top. Then, there’s Hawa Mahal with its delicate lattice windows – another iconic spot which I loved. I walked through the bustling bazaars for hours, absorbing the energy and taking views of beautiful textiles, jewellery, and souvenirs. Jaipur seamlessly blends history and modern life, and it is a great place to begin your Rajasthan journey.
2. Udaipur – The City of Lakes
Udaipur is one of those places that feels like it’s straight out of a fairy tale. Lake Pichola and the Lake Palace just floating in the middle: The place had me utterly charmed from the moment I first laid my eyes on it. The City Palace, with great architecture and a beautiful view, is something to mention. Yet what makes Udaipur truly special is its serenity, it’s almost magical feeling. A serene sunset boat ride on the lake is one of the memories of my trip that would not be forgotten. If you’re into romantic getaways or just need a break from the hustle and bustle, Udaipur is a perfect escape.
3. Jodhpur – The Blue City
Jodhpur is so unique—its nickname, “The Blue City,” is totally fitting. The blue-painted houses are like something out of a dream. Mehrangarh Fort is a must-visit place—a huge, grand, and historical place. What impressed me most about Jodhpur is that the whole city is vibrant and full of colours. The marketplace is bustling with activity, and there are blue-tinted buildings everywhere. There’s great street food too, and that was a treat for me as a foodie. The energy of the city, combined with its historical significance, makes Jodhpur a place I’ll always remember fondly.
4. Jaisalmer – The Golden City
It’s a place like nowhere else in my travels: known as the “Golden City” for its sheer brilliance of yellow sandstone. Jaisalmer feels almost as if it is part of another world. A living fort, the Jaisalmer Fort, comprises narrow lanes and bustling shops where people live. My favourite part, however, was the camel safari that runs all over the Thar Desert. The sunset against the dunes was absolutely magical and made me really appreciate the beauty of the desert. Jaisalmer, in general, with its history, desert atmosphere, and golden light, is absolutely a unique place in Rajasthan.
5. Pushkar – The Spiritual Oasis
Pushkar is small, but it’s full of spiritual energy. Located amidst temples, Pushkar Lake was one of the holiest places in India: there’s just a feeling around you of peace when you’re here. I just took some time walking about this lake, enjoying the atmosphere while going to the Brahma Temple – one of the just few in the world for the worship of Brahma. Coloured shops run down the streets selling stuff that includes incense sticks as well as jewellery. If you are visiting during the Pushkar Camel Fair, it is much more lively and full of life.
6. Ranthambore National Park – Safari Fun
If you are an animal lover, you should never miss visiting Ranthambore National Park. I had been there to see a tiger and got lucky. The park itself is just beautiful with lush green forests and ancient ruins everywhere, making it a place full of wonders. This fort within the park, is another wonder that provides marvellous views of the jungle. If you are an outdoor lover or simply desirous of adventure, you won’t forget this park.
7. Bikaner – Culture and Food
Bikaner is, like many places in Rajasthan, some kind of secret find. Not crowded like the bigger cities but rather filled with culture and character. The Junagarh Fort is wonderfully preserved, and I felt that I was walking through history while strolling through it. One of the most memorable experiences in Bikaner is a visit to the Karni Mata Temple, famously known as the Rat Temple. Thousands of rats are worshipped there. It was certainly an odd experience, but fascinating, anyway. And of course, I could not go without trying some Bikaneri bhujia—it was yummy!
8. Mount Abu – the Hill Station of Rajasthan
I was so amazed to hear that Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan. The refreshing cool climate and beautiful landscape after the desert heat made it a place of comfort. I visited Nakki Lake on a quiet boat ride and took Dilwara Temple tours; these are completely made of marble and seem to be the most beautiful places that have ever been built in India. Mt. Abu is a good place when one looks for a calm place surrounded by beauty.
9. Alwar – Quite a Hideaway
Alwar is not a tourist place, which is also the reason it is special. The view of the countryside at Bala Quila Fort is incredible. Sariska Tiger Reserve, on the other hand, is very ideal for some peaceful experience of wildlife. Alwar feels a bit quieter and more laid-back as compared to the bigger cities; hence it is a nice place for unwinding and enjoying a slow pace of life.
10. Ranthambore Fort – History in the Wilderness
Ranthambhore Fort is located within the Ranthambore National Park. It is a thrilling blend of history and nature. The fort is very old with ruins, temples, and beautiful views everywhere. I spent some time exploring the fort after my safari; it was really amazing to connect with the rich history of the place surrounded by the wild beauty of the park. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Rajasthan is a land of contrasts—rich in history, culture, and adventure. Whatever you are searching for, from grand palaces to peaceful lakes and exciting safaris to undiscovered gems, Rajasthan will offer it to you.
